What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary health care, which focuses on finding the root cause of an individual’s disease, as opposed to treating symptoms alone. It involves a comprehensive and thorough approach to treating illness and optimizing health. It uses an evidence-based approach as well as modern medical diagnostic tools for management and treatment.

How Can Naturopathic Medicine Help?

Naturopathic medicine sees the patient as a whole body rather than a set of symptoms. A thorough history including lifestyle, diet, and previous medical conditions allow naturopathic doctors to provide treatment that is unique to the patient’s history and presenting concern. Naturopathic treatment involves the use of botanical supplements, vitamin and mineral supplementation, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy. Collaborative care with other healthcare providers and specialists ensure that the patient always receives the best options for their health.

Common Conditions Managed by Naturopathic Doctors:

  • Pain management & relief (musculoskeletal, neuropathic, psychogenic, and others)
  • Endocrine-related conditions (such as diabetes and thyroid-associated concerns)
  • Gastrointestinal & digestive concerns (GERD, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, and others)
  • Health optimization, general well-being
  • Nutrient deficiencies/imbalance
  • Mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, OCD, and others)
  • Fatigue, burnout, and brain fog
  • Stress management
  • Insomnia and other sleep disorders
  • Eczema, psoriasis, scarring, and other skin conditions

What to Expect on Your First Visit?

Your initial visit with the clinic’s naturopathic doctor would involve a thorough and in-depth medical intake. It is very important to us that your presenting concern is addressed and that your whole body is also assessed. Your personal medical history and experiences are also taken in to ensure that the naturopathic doctor has a full understanding of your chief concerns. A physical exam will also be performed during the first visit, with a special focus on your concern. This would allow for us to present you with a medical diagnosis, treatment plan, and future management of your concerns and general health. You can expect to go home with some sort of treatment plan, with or without treatment during the visit itself.
